The Management Side

Andrew Tylecote

Chapter 2 in The Causes of the Present Inflation, 1981, pp 25-50 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract How far is Adam Smith’s pessimistic view of ‘professional’ management — as satisficers, in my language — true today? The answer is important, for it affects management’s bargaining stance. The answer also turns out to be quite different, between Britain on the one hand, and Germany and the United States on the other. That makes it fascinating.
