Adequate Technological Strategy in an Imperfect Economic Context: A Case-Study of the Evolution of the Acindar Steelplant in Rosario, Argentina

Philip Maxwell

Chapter 5 in Technology Generation in Latin American Manufacturing Industries, 1987, pp 119-153 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract The purpose of this chapter is to present a case-study of how an Argentine steelplant built in 1943 has evolved in the 34 years since then and to exemplify a theme which is of common interest and relevance in many Latin American countries, namely how firms owning industrial plants can manage to adapt and evolve them in the face of a ‘macroeconomic’ context which is full of economic distortions and irrationalities.
