ASEAN Intergovernmental Regional Efforts
Michael Skully
Chapter 2 in ASEAN Financial Co-operation, 1985, pp 4-23 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Of the various co-operative efforts, those of the ASEAN intergovernmental bodies are the most important, as few private sector measures can be adopted without the implied approval, if not the direct support, of the individual member countries. Success at the multigovernment level, too, regardless of how nominal, also stimulates further private sector efforts. This is particularly true in the financial sector, where most financial institutions’ activities are subjected to direct government controls.
