Bison Concrete: Industrialised Building

Luke Georghiou, J. Stanley Metcalfe, Michael Gibbons, Tim Ray and Janet Evans

Chapter 2 in Post-Innovation Performance, 1986, pp 105-112 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Concrete Ltd (since 1977, Bison Concrete Ltd) won the Queen’s Award to Industry in 1967 for its development of an industrialised building system which was designed to meet the housing needs of local authorities. This system was originally launched in 1963 as a method of enabling the component sections of high-rise housing developments (of between eight and twenty storeys) to be manufactured in a factory, prior to on-site assembly. Two years later a similar system was also introduced for low-rise housing developments.
