Privatisation
Roger Bootle
Chapter 4 in Public Expenditure Policy, 1985–86, 1985, pp 77-99 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The case for privatisation has its orgins in both the intellectual revolution of the 1970s against the post-war Keynesian consensus, and disillusion with the performance of public enterprises in practice. But privatisation took on added importance for the Conservative Government for several reasons: to reduce union power, to contain the figures for government expenditure and the PSBR, to help regenerate the economy from the supply side, and to broaden support for the capitalist system.
