Abstract: Abstract The ties which link Western Europe and the countries of South-East Asia are very old and have had a multi-century continuity which cannot be overlooked when evaluating their present status as expressed through the institutional relationship between the EC and ASEAN, as well as through the bilateral links between the individual countries.
