Abstract:
Abstract In October 1965 the North Thames Gas Board, with the support of the Gas Council, took the decision to convert Canvey Island to natural gas. This was to be the first major conversion exercise in Britain and in the event it turned out to be the forerunner for the massive conversion programme of the entire country, which occupied the years until 1977.
