Abstract: Abstract No scholar has contributed a more systematic analysis of the British financial system than Jack Revell, and the breadth of his work is indicated in the wide range of contributions to this volume from academic economists and practitioners. It is a tribute to the power and authority of his work that he has been uniquely successful in integrating the different perspectives of each. In countless books and articles he has analysed all the major dimensions of the financial system: the role of competition, structural change, regulation, efficiency and profitability, and the business operations of financial institutions.
