Abstract: Abstract Every year employers, employers’ associations, employees, trade union officials and workplace representatives, engage in literally thousands of separate negotiations over pay, working conditions and other matters relating to employment. For the vast majority, negotiations end in amicable collective agreements without the slightest whiff or threat of a strike or any other form of industrial action. Inevitably, however, some of these negotiations end in deadlock.
