Banking in Europe after 1992

Chapter 8 in Bankers’ and Public Authorities’ Management of Risks, 1990, pp 121-150 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The European Community’s end-1992 deadline has become a much-talked-about political topic in a number of member-states, even if its implications have not always been fully thought through. Far be it from me to criticize this. Experience has shown that the media’s focus, well in advance, on some future step forward has enabled Europe to make progress in the past. This will no doubt be the case again today.
