Abstract: Abstract Economists often charge that politicians turn a deaf ear to their advice, whereas politicians find that economic analyses seldom provide them with workable guidelines. The cognitive-evolutionary approach is an outgrowth of this situation with improvement of the quality of economic consulting as its objective. It is intended as a contribution to the solution of communication problems between politician and economist. Because we believe that these problems arise largely from inadequate representation of the politician’s actual situation in economic models, we stress the importance of uncertainty and power.1
