Abstract:
Abstract The concept of directly unproductive profit-seeking (DUP) activities, among them the subset of rent-seeking activities, has now become an important component of theoretical analysis. It has also entered the realm of policy analysis, including that of measurement, as several analysts of policy regimes in developing countries have increasingly attempted to include estimates of rent-seeking costs in assessing the costs of inefficient policies.2
