Chapter 3 in Exchange Rate Management: Theory and Evidence, 1991, pp 79-125 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The opening chapter of this book was concerned with the case for exchange rate management while Chapter 2 investigated the factors that determine the optimal degree of exchange rate management. In this third chapter we analyse the policy implications of the modern asset market view of exchange rate determination, concentrating upon the issue of which instrument to use for managing the exchange rate. In order to deal with this issue, we shall examine some of the implications and differences between the various instruments that can be used to influence the exchange rate.
