Chapter 2 in The Exporter’s & Importer’s Handbook on Foreign Currencies, 1990, pp 20-22 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract There is a great deal of confusion in people’s minds about a Euro-dollar. Most think that it is a different kind of dollar. In actual fact a Euro-dollar is an ordinary US dollar but it is owned by someone who is domiciled outside the USA. Indeed, at the beginning of the Euro-currency market they were all Eurodollars. Today it covers all the main currencies; Euro-sterling; Euro-deutschmark; Euro-yen; Euro-dollars etc. and all that is meant by Euro-currencies are currencies which are owned by people, mainly bankers, who are domiciled outside the countries of origin.
