‘You’ll Figure it Out Between You’: Problem-Solving with the Web-8
Gillian Hardstone
Chapter 13 in Exploring Expertise, 1998, pp 285-301 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The focus of this chapter is the mobilization of knowledge during everyday production in the press area of a printing firm: the practice of ‘normal’ (Constant, 1987) technological knowledge. This is an area largely unexplored by researchers who, with certain exceptions (Harper, 1987), have tended to concentrate on scientific or professional knowledge (Knorr-Cetina, 1981; Whitley, 1984; Vincenti, 1990); on the role of knowledge in innovation (Winter, 1987; von Hippel, 1988; Dosi, 1988; Faulkner, 1994); or on blue- and white-collar workers’ knowledge and skill under conditions of technological change (Cockburn, 1983; Zuboff, 1988).
