Practical Applications of Multimedia and Virtual Reality

Dimitris N. Chorafas

Chapter 7 in Protocols, Servers and Projects for Multimedia Realtime Systems, 1997, pp 166-192 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract To a very significant extent, competitiveness in the mid- to late 1990s will be defined through interactive multimedia services. In its many ramifications multimedia is an emerging market, growing out of the current ferment over broadband channels not only in communications but also in input/output (I/O). This extends all the way to multimedia computing and involves the linkages between: Cable television, Satellite nodes, Telephone lines, and Personal computers.
