New Trends in Management Education in Asia

George Westacott and Paul Steidlmeier

Chapter 12 in Management Education in Countries in Transition, 1999, pp 141-150 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract In the past fifteen years newly industrialized countries (NICs) in the Asia Pacific region have emerged as solid growth economies and world class competitors in global markets. For these countries, management education is being rapidly transformed week by week. The economies of northeast Asia and most of the countries in ASEAN have shown themselves to be masters of solid and consistent growth as well as strong competitors in world markets for goods and services. The second-tier countries of southeast Asia such as Burma, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam also have shown that they are poised for rapid growth and development. As a result of all this rapid economic growth and soaring trade and investment over the past fifteen years, there has been a mushrooming demand for qualified managers.
