Chapter 6 in Flexible Employment, 1997, pp 90-103 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract In this chapter we wish to examine the extent to which non-standard forms of employment changed during the 1980s. Unfortunately, this task is not as straightforward as it might appear, largely because the sources of data changed over the period. Flexible employment is a relatively recent area of interest in British labour market studies and the data which are now available on this subject reflect this new interest. The same data were not always collected in the past, partly because there was less interest in the topic, and partly because the newest forms of non-standard work were not of a sufficient size to make it worth examining.
