On the Role of Values in the Work of Economists

Frank D. Graham

Chapter 2 in What do Economists Contribute?, 1999, pp 27-32 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Man’s reach, we may hope, will always exceed his grasp, and heaven, therefore, even if we are all alike, is unattainable. Men must therefore pursue, rather than expect, happiness, and, rather than happiness, they might better follow some slightly less evanescent wills-o’-the-wisp.
