Abstract:
Abstract There are two distinct approaches to leadership. The first is about observing leadership behaviour so that we can deduce and encourage those actions that are positive in the value-adding process which is at the root of all leaders’ endeavours. When optimal, these observable actions will help to get the best from the people at all levels in an organization. Because of this we look at the nature of leadership and the distinction between leadership and management, before looking from the viewpoint of followers. While still in this observation mode, we briefly touch on inspirational and perspirational leadership because both elements must be in evidence.
