The Plan and Purpose of the Book

F. V. Meyer, D. C. Corner and J. E. S. Parker

Chapter 1 in Problems of a Mature Economy, 1970, pp 1-3 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract From any vantage point of earlier history, the 1950s and 1960s would have seemed a golden era. Economic progress proceeded at a faster rate than at almost any other time in recorded British economic history. Incomes, output and exports all reached a record level. Most people were better fed, clad and housed than ever before. They had more consumer goods and more leisure. Above all there was more security of employment than at any other time since industrialisation began.
