Abstract: Abstract This chapter is methodological. Its aim is to set down, in the most general terms, the approach to economic science that will be taken in this book. As a consequence this chapter will freely call on other branches of knowledge from which clearer and more penetrating examples can readily be drawn, leaving the remainder of the book to supply in detail the economic examples.
