Youth Unemployment in Historical Context
Mark Casson
Chapter 2 in Youth Unemployment, 1979, pp 9-29 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter offers an historical perspective on youth unemployment. It reviews the origins of the study of youth unemployment and traces developments in the UK since the turn of the century. As such, it fills a gap in existing literature by providing a critical appraisal of earlier works on the subject.1 More significantly, it demonstrates that the characteristics of youth unemployment have changed little in the seventy years that have elapsed since the subject was first seriously investigated.
