Price Comparisons of Identical Products in Japan, the United States and Europe
W. Duncan Reekie
Chapter 9 in Economic Analysis of Regulated Markets, 1983, pp 168-181 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter reports on a study of eight leading multinational pharmaceutical firms each of which markets products in Europe, the United States and Japan. One motivating factor behind the exercise was that, increasingly, governments and academics have resorted to international price comparisons to ascertain whether or not a given firm’s price range or a given product’s price was ‘fair’ (NEDO 1972; Cooper, 1975). Second, no such comparison with the methodology used here has been carried out before.
