Economic Viewpoints
Guy Routh
Chapter 1 in Economics, 1984, pp 1-3 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract You will find this book unlike other books on economics. It arises from a long-felt discontent with orthodox texts that require students to spend an undue time mastering the models that have been thought up by past generations of theorists, and an inadequate time in exploring the world in which they live. I have discarded theories that have no basis in reality, or that give those that learn them an illusion of understanding, which is worse than no understanding at all. I have tried to ensure that the data and ideas substituted are well-founded. They are drawn from many sources, much discussion and many years of observation and research. When, in the absence of adequate knowledge, I state what I imagine to be so, I have given a warning to that effect.
