Decisions (1): A Cross-section
Alastair Hetherington
Chapter 4 in News, Newspapers and Television, 1985, pp 63-86 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Take an average week and look at news priorities. We did so in July 1983, barely a month after the general election that put Mrs Thatcher back in power with a big majority of Conservative MPs. In this chapter we hear from night editors, programme editors and others why they gave priority to particular topics. They articulate what are normally unstated assumptions about ‘significance’.
