The French Insurance Market

J.-François Outreville

Chapter 9 in The Economics of Insurance Regulation, 1986, pp 230-253 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Since the seventeenth century, insurance has changed greatly. This evolution has brought insurance from a mere set of conventions between individuals to a major national concern. Since its birth, the French insurance market has undergone many transformations. For many years, certain branches were forbidden for moral reasons or in the interest of public order while others experienced enormous growth.
