Abstract:
Abstract A strike at a British car factory is scarcely a remarkable event. The stoppage at the Halewood factory of the Ford Motor Company, in the week of 14 to 21 June 1971, possessed few intrinsically memorable features; it will indeed have been generally forgotten by the date that this book appears. It has been chosen to introduce the present study of strikes partly because it was unremarkable; but mainly because it was the first dispute after the commissioning of this volume to attract detailed press coverage. The account which follows is based wholly on these press reports.
