Abstract: Abstract In Chapter 3 the structural analysis common to most studies of industrial relations was contrasted with interpretations of conflict which explore the meanings and motives of those directly involved. This duality of approaches is one which pervades sociology generally, and reflects an ambivalence which permeates social reality.
