The Western Morning News: 14–15 June 1988

Alastair Hetherington

Chapter 19 in News in the Regions, 1989, pp 177-184 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Until he became Editor of the Western Morning News in 1985, Colin Davison had never lived or worked in the South-West. As a child he had been on holiday in Torquay and Ilfracombe, but he knew little of Devon or Cornwall. His experience as a journalist was cosmopolitan, with spells in Yugoslavia, Brussels, Yorkshire, Darlington and Lincoln before being appointed to Plymouth at the age of 36. Since 1985 he has rightly wanted to promote the interests of the public whom his newspaper serves, both by thorough reporting and by critical analysis of the region’s character.
