Improvising on a ‘Rather Quiet Day’: YTV Calendar
Alastair Hetherington
Chapter 6 in News in the Regions, 1989, pp 50-61 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The trial of the accomplice in the Sgt Speed murder case was over, and only the case against his wife remained. The nurses of Yorkshire and the distress of the National Health Service continued to make headlines here as in other regions. The coal industry was still having trouble in some of its Yorkshire pits. But Wednesday 27 January 1988 was seen as a ‘poor news day’ in the newsroom of Calendar, as at the BBC.
