A Conservative Newspaper’s News: The Yorkshire Post, 28–29 January 1988
Alastair Hetherington
Chapter 7 in News in the Regions, 1989, pp 62-73 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The front page of Thursday 28 January was overwhelmingly Yorkshire. All five of the main items were about Yorkshire or about Yorkshire Post investigations, and of the 11 brief digests in the end column five were Yorkshire stories. The lead was ‘New inquiry on Militants in Yorkshire’ — about the Labour Party’s investigation of Bradford North, on which the divergent views of Yorkshire Television’s Calendar and the BBC’s Look North have already been recorded. The Yorkshire Post report was factual, with much more detail than the broadcasts gave. It was the combined work of a Yorkshire Post political staff member at Westminster and one in Bradford.
