Introduction

David T. Llewellyn

Chapter 1 in Reflections on Money, 1989, pp 1-23 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Money, and its management, has been an enduring topic of theoretical and empirical analysis over the centuries. Old and basic controversies constantly re-emerge in increasingly sophisticated ways even though the fundamental issues remain constant. Over the past two decades in particular there has been a substantial evolution in monetary theory, in our thinking about the role of money in the economy, and also with respect to monetary policy regimes and techniques of monetary policy.
