Chapter Chapter 1 in Contemporary British Industrial Relations, 1992, pp 4-20 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Britain’s post-war industrial relations system was determined in large part by the economic, political and social environment then prevailing. The immediate post-war economic environment was one of scarcity and shortages of most goods and raw materials. There was no need therefore to fear for full employment (particularly given Marshall Aid) or acute overseas competition, with most of Europe devastated by the war.
