A French Reading of the Wealth of Nations in 1790

Daniel Diatkine

Chapter 11 in Adam Smith: International Perspectives, 1993, pp 213-223 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract The relationship between Adam Smith and France is both a close and complex one. In the field of political economy alone, there exists a twofold stream. One concerns the influence of French thinking, through the Physiocratic school, on the writing of the Wealth of Nations while the other concerns the influence, in return, of the Wealth of Nations on French economic thought.
