Chapter 1 in Japan and the New World Order, 1996, pp 1-40 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Japan’s global investments, trade and financial dealings must be understood both in the context of the kind of world order that has been emerging over the past decade and in the context of the domestic forces within Japan that continue to make it necessary to participate in that order. This first chapter outlines the salient features of the global context, while the next chapter focuses on the domestic context.
