Abstract:
Abstract Privatisation which is currently a worldwide phenomenon has been justified on several grounds, from increasing public enterprise efficiency to creating a free enterprise economic system. In Malaysia, where it was made a national policy in the mid-1980s, it was regarded as an instrument of national policy and socio-economic restructuring. As an instrument of national policy it was aimed at reducing the financial and administrative burden of the government, improve the efficiency and productivity of public enterprises and facilitating economic growth. In the case of socioeconomic restructuring, the main role of the privatisation policy is to help achieve the objectives of the New Economic Policy (NEP) and subsequently of the Economic Policy for National Development (EPND).
