Technological Interweavement: A Means for New Technology-Based Firms to Achieve Innovation Success

Peter Heydebreck

Chapter 9 in Technology, Innovation and Enterprise, 1997, pp 274-302 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Research on efficient innovation management was focused on intra-organisational topics until at least the beginning of the 1980s. Then the research on industrial procurement and on industrial marketing began to show that it is not meaningful to study isolated players in homogeneous markets, because ‘[f]irms are not islands but are linked together in patterns of co-operation and affiliation’ (Richardson, 1972:895). The interweavement of actors demands an analysis of dyadic relationships and complex networks. This insight holds true not only in respect to the mere procurement and distribution of products but also in regard to innovation management.
