Abstract: Abstract Over the last two decades, culminating in the Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992, the state of the world environment has occupied center stage as a critical global concern. For centuries, since human beings first inherited planet Earth, the environment has provided the resource base which has made possible human sustenance and human progress.
