Abstract:
Abstract In a Europe consisting of rising nation-states which had developed their respective mercantilist economic theories, the Swiss confederation and the powerful cantons of Berne, Geneva and Basle had little directly to contribute. What we find to be the ‘Swiss contribution’ was much more subtle and certainly of more lasting significance.
