Abstract:
Abstract A recent ‘Money Report’ in the International Herald Tribune analysed how international investments in land could produce double-digit returns, at a time when yields in Western stock and bond markets are low, and the Asian crisis is making many investors nervous about traditional securities in any of the emerging markets. The lead article argued that: The risks are formidable and the barriers to entry extensive, but with land values across Central and Eastern Europe a mere fraction of those in the West, private investors are actively investigating long-term investment opportunities in former Communist countries (Wall, 1998: 15).
