Chapter Chapter 4 in Learning from Disasters: A Management Approach, 2005, pp 38-41 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter describes the underlying methodological assumptions, and the analytical techniques adopted in this research. The research underlying this book is based on the collection and analysis of data relating to how organisations attempt to learn from sociotechnical disasters. Data were collected from organisations represented at nineteen public inquiries into disasters that occurred in the UK between 1965 and 1978. Information was gathered from face-to-face interviews, letter correspondence and documentation, both published and unpublished. Multiple data sources were utilised where possible. The collected data were then analysed using ‘grounded theory’.
