Acquisition of Advanced Technological Capabilities
Xiaobai Shen
Chapter 5 in The Chinese Road to High Technology, 1999, pp 145-164 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter begins the process of analysing the detailed case-study findings presented in Chapters 3 and 4. By comparing and contrasting the processes of technological innovation in these two cases it seeks to throw light on the central concern of this study - how developing countries can accumulate indigenous technological capabilities and the contribution to this of advanced technology transfer from abroad. The next chapter will then seek to explicate the influence of the broader social setting, which was changing as a result of China’s economic reform and transition.
