Chapter 1 in Smart Sourcing, 2002, pp 1-10 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Numerous writers conclude that the greatest benefit an enterprise can derive from outsourcing is cost reduction. They argue that pursuing outsourcing for the purposes of economies of scale produces not only a cost advantage but also increased internal efficiencies. Others argue that outsourcing can strategically change an organisation, assisting management to analyse the extent to which the firm is differentiated from its competitors and thus emerge with a clear value proposition for the enterprise. As a result, resources are repositioned to be more focused on achieving particular goals and targets.
