Technology Evolution, Invention and Transformation
Joseph A. DiVanna
Chapter Chapter 1 in Thinking Beyond Technology, 2003, pp 4-64 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract In the post-dot-com business climate, a growing number of organizations are adopting a more conservative approach to purchasing, implementing and applying technology to service customers. The technologies used to introduce new products and optimize the process of business now meet with a higher level of scrutiny. This new approach to technology can be labelled as a cautious scepticism, a residual attitude manifested by the downturn in the technology industry. The new stance on technology is largely due to two factors: the enormous effort expended on the Y2K problem, and the meltdown of Internet companies, which symbolized the dawn of a new era in business.
