Chapter 7 in Banking Reforms and Monetary Policy in the People’s Republic of China, 2002, pp 148-158 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This study is an analysis of banking reforms in China between 1978 and 2000 and the Chinese central bank’s conduct of monetary policy by control of interest rates, reserve ratio requirements and open market operations. China experienced four periods of sequential monetary policy reforms. It has been shown in this book that, following the 1978–2000 reforms, the Chinese banking system was put on a sound financial footing. Challenges that the Chinese banking system will face after China’s joining of the World Trade Organization include supervision of foreign banks, financial risks, the default loan issue and the bankruptcy issue.
