Shanghai: China’s Financial Capital
Michael Backman
Chapter Chapter 24 in The Asian Insider, 2004, pp 197-200 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Shanghai worries the world. And Hong Kong is terrified by it. Analysts go there, look at the breakneck development and wonder, if this is what one Chinese city can be like, what will it mean for the world when many Chinese cities are like it? The world looks on and sees an emerging new world order. Hong Kong looks on and sees its emerging irrelevance. And what should that other billion-plus country India make of Shanghai?
