Communicating with Indians

Rajesh Kumar and Anand Kumar Sethi

Chapter Chapter Seven in Doing Business in India, 2005, pp 103-114 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Communication is a fundamental aspect of human interaction in that individuals cannot but not communicate.1 One may be effective or ineffective in accurately conveying what one wishes to say to the other party, but without question whenever we interact with another individual one does convey some message, whether or not we intended to convey that message to the other party. Above all, communication is a goal-driven activity in which one is either conveying some information to the other party to get them to do something or are trying to extract information from another person to further one’s own objectives. Whether it is setting up a business meeting, or making an offer to buy or sell a particular commodity, communication serves as the medium to help accomplish these goals.
