Chapter Chapter 4 in Singapore as an International Financial Centre, 2016, pp 43-54 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Many of the world’s leading IFCs tend to be located in top global cities. This is by no means a matter of coincidence. Financial activities have a tendency to convalesce in city centres that are also host to the infrastructure and services required for financial sector development. Given the benefits that IFCs bring to national economies, city and municipal governments are also placing greater emphasis on urban policies and designs that can encourage IFC formation and growth within a city. This chapter discusses the spatial dynamics of Singapore’s development as an IFC. It focuses on both external geospatial factors as well as internal urban development.
