Abstract:
Abstract This research examines the relationship between online dating platforms and Non-Profit Organisations, hypothesising that the algorithms of the latter would differ from profit-driven counterparts. These platforms have grown in significance, serving millions of users globally while generating substantial profits. This study combines literature review and qualitative research to explore the potential changes if online dating platforms adopted a non-profit model. Convenience sampling was used, with 36 interviews conducted either orally or in writing, on the phone, in person, or via email. Respondents’ perspectives on the differences between profit-driven and non-profit online dating platforms vary. Some suggest minimal change, while others envision improved algorithms leading to enhanced matchmaking, greater efficiency, and societal well-being. The study includes data analysis, implications, and future research suggestions.
